Signs that your children maybe involved with drugs

Establishing whether your children are involved with drugs is not easy, for the warning signs can be a result of the pressures of just being a teenager. Either way, it’s a good idea to pay attention to and address these warning signs even if the root of the problem is not drugs.

  • Skipping classes
  • A drop in school grades
  • Issues at school – bullying, trouble…
  • No longer involved in activities\sports once enjoyed
  • Old friends being replaced by new friends
  • Secretive about friends
  • Changes in behaviour and personality
  • Extreme mood changes
  • Looking tired, hung-over, lacking energy and motivation
  • More and more forgetful
  • Secretive\guarded
  • Distant from the family
  • Rebellious
  • Red\glassy eyes
  • Weight loss
  • A sudden lack in care for hygiene and physical appearance
  • Sleeping issues
  • Fatigue or hyperactivity
  • Missing items and/or money
  • An overuse of deodorant, cologne, perfume. Too much too often.
  • Clues include eye drops, cigarette papers, plastic baggies, breathe mints
  • Avoiding eye contact and interaction. Running to the bedroom.
  • Smell of smoke on clothing or breath
